Day 8…I was in bed fasting all day. I felt miserable and didn’t leave my room the whole day. Felt useless. Realized that I serve people and give to them to assure myself that they like me. Without being able to serve I was sure everyone was talking bad about me and wishing I wasn’t even there. The crazy things I can come up with in my mind. I finished reading “The Pleasure Trap”, what a good book! I think I want to re-read it, just to make sure I didn’t miss any great information.
The only person I saw all day was my roommate and she was great. She brought me a warm towel to put on my stomach a couple of times. That night when it was bed time I realized that I hadn’t touched another human all day. After thinking about it, I realized that I tend to get a lot of human touch on a regular basis. I am always hugging people and touching them.
Day 9…I was starting to feel better. Got up a couple of times to get water, other wise I stayed in bed the whole day. Was still light headed and shaky. Danielle came in and talked to me and touched me. She was there for two hours, I was so grateful for her company. When she left I was exhausted. I slept for 2 and a half hours. Felt super hungry in the afternoon, but then I drank a bunch of water and the hunger went away. Made me think that I mistake hunger for thirst a lot of times. In the evening my lightheaded feeling and shakiness went away. I felt really clean, healthy and strong.
Woke up ready to break my fast. I got up and weighed myself 143.2 lbs. Down nine lbs. from when I got here. I went and talked to Doug about breaking my fast and he felt I was ready as well.
I was really excited to eat again!
I ate a modest amount of watermelon at breakfast. I was amazed and how intense my sense of smell had become. The watermelon smelled so incredible and tasted amazing.
Christie and I did a breakfast presentation about soluble and insoluble fibers. It went good and of course we need both fibers. Grains have only insoluble fibers and scratch the colon. Fruits and vegetables all have both fibers. It is really easy to get enough fiber from fruits and vegetables. 5 apples, 5 oranges, 5 cups of lettuce and a handful of blackberries is enough fiber for men. I could easily eat that in a day..or a single meal even.
After breakfast I monitored my fasters. I had 2 today. They both look great. The first one I monitored has been fasting for 8 days and he is so happy and pleasant. I don’t know how he does it. I wasn’t happy and pleasant on my short little fast, let alone a long one. My other faster just got here last night and was on his first day. He is deaf, but we had very little problems communicating. I know the alphabet in sign language and just pointed or wrote things down. He speaks very well and I could understand all of his responses.
After I finished monitoring I went to my room and worked on my Spanish for a while. It was nice to have a break from assignments and be able to work on some of my own goals.
I was feeling a little bit tired and thought maybe I was over doing it after fasting for 60 hours. I was on lunch duty though and I managed to stumble my way through that.
LUNCH: blended banana’s and romaine lettuce
I wasn’t able to get much down. I thought I would be able to eat more, but was just going along with my bodies signals. After lunch I went down to warm up the hot tub. Then came back up and lied down in the great room and slept through most of the lecture. I was sooo tired.
When I woke up I felt so amazing. I was full of energy and happiness. The hot tub would be warm by now, so I went down to soak a little bit. The water was not that warm, but still felt nice. There are shower rooms down by the pool and I decided that a nice hot shower would get me nice and toasty warm. In the shower one side is the door and the other side is open and you can see the beautiful jungle. There are shutters you can close, but I just left them open and enjoyed the beauty. I can’t believe how gorgeous it is here and the fact that I am here in Costa Rica finally hit me. I wanted to squeal with happiness. My health was back and I was in paradise! Yay!
DINNER: orange juice blended with mango and pineapple, papaya’s, tomato, red pepper, cucumber stew, sliced tomato’s, romaine lettuce and a slaw of cucumber, mango and red pepper
I had a little bit of everything but still couldn’t eat very much.
Dinner discussion was about potassium. Doug gave up a scenario of a healthy, athletic woman, who eats 80/10/10 goes in and gets blood tests and comes up with a very low number in potassium. Why would this be? We came up with a couple of reasons, but Doug said there was one more. We couldn’t figure it out and I was getting very frustrated. I wanted to kick Doug…I restrained myself of course…lol. We finally figured it out and Doug asked what we thought of the process. I said that I didn’t like it one bit and it was very frustrating for me. Doug took that well and I felt better after venting 🙂
After dinner I wrote my blog and plan on being in bed by 9 p.m.
